Becky’s Wedding Day Countdown
7 March 2018
Becky, one of the team at the Mercure Brighton is getting married in November. We had a chat with her about her big day; here she tells how the planning is going, the key priorities and the fun in counting down.
“We got engaged on our eight year anniversary, and set the date for the wedding to coincide with our ten year anniversary, making our wedding date extra special.
This gave us two years to plan, and having been involved in helping plan my sister’s wedding on a very short timescale due to logistical requirements, I wanted to ensure I had enough time to enjoy planning and counting down to our special day. Time is key, and planning is crucial!
I would recommend visiting venues to see them, and get a feel for them. Having visited a number of venues, I didn’t get a feel for them, and found myself drawn to my workplace, knowing the staff, and having seen them cater for those getting married by going the extra mile. I know the team will be thrilled for me on my big day; I know that venue will be perfect, the decorations will be stunning, and the team know how to make the day special.
The choice of food options was also a key point for me to consider, as I have family members who are vegetarian, and vegan. The flexibility with choosing menus, and knowing that all dietary requirements are catered for, puts my mind at ease.
Having the whole day at the hotel, including the ceremony and reception, was also a deciding factor for us. It’s likely to rain in November, so we can all stay inside under one roof, without having to travel!
In terms of the things that are already booked, we’ve sourced the evening entertainment, and a photo booth. Both of these have attended events at the hotel previously, so I’ve been in the very fortunate position of seeing them in action, and knowing how good they are. I booked both of these one year in advance to secure the date. Fortunately, my cousin is a photographer, so we have booked him and it’s great to know our photographer so well, that he’ll be able to capture some truly magical moments naturally. The registrar is also booked, this was one done one year in advance.
I’m currently designing the invitations, which is proving to be more time consuming and difficult that I thought!
The bridesmaids’ dresses are ordered, having bought one to check the colour was perfect, to meet our chosen colour theme, which is burgundy, navy and gold. I’m in the process of narrowing down the style of dress I’d like, although I have yet to try it on.
Antonio, the wedding co-ordinator at the hotel, has been fabulous, always answering my queries promptly and with a smile as we countdown.
The thing I’m looking forward to most? Celebrating the day, and bringing everyone together. We’re both one of five, so we can’t have a small wedding!”
