Sussex Teacher of the Year Awards 2017

7 February 2018

Here at the hotel we’re really keen to get involved with the local community, and therefore jumped at the chance to be involved with the inaugural Sussex teacher of the year awards. Nominations are open for the awards until 12 April 2018, with the winners announced at a special evening awards dinner at the hotel in June.

The event is organised by the KM Charity team, and Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel is delighted to be a partner. The awards follows the success of a similar event in neighbouring Kent, and is designed to recognise teachers and school support staff from across the county who go the extra mile in their roles.

There are a number of categories for nominations including primary, secondary, newly qualified teacher, non-teaching member of staff including dinner ladies and caretakers, and a volunteer award, which includes members of the PTA and governors. The public can nominate their chosen teacher at

There will be up to 50 winning teachers at the event in June, together with partners and sponsors, with the winners receiving their award against the stunning backdrop of the hotel’s Ballroom. The hotel, located on the seafront, is the ideal location for the awards, where up to 100 guests will be welcomed on the night.

Iain Lindsay, General Manager at Mercure Brighton Seafront Hotel, commented: “We are delighted to be a partner in these awards, which recognises and acknowledges local teachers and school staff who go beyond their duty to inspire the next generation. We all remember the names of teachers or support staff who helped motivate us, encourage us, or provided an opportunity to learn in a different way. I’m looking forward to meeting the shortlisted teachers in June.”
